About Workit Health:

Founded in 2015 by two women in recovery, Workit Health has been addressing substance use disorders using a virtual-first model for eight years and has provided care for over 23,000 members. The Workit program includes video visits with licensed clinicians, e-prescribing for substance use disorders and comorbid conditions, and psychosocial, therapeutic support. Product Description:
Real recovery requires support from healthcare providers, family members, and peers. Unfortunately, relapse risk after treatment is high – the relapse rate is estimated between 40 – 60%. CHESS Health provides evidence-based support programs that function as a safety net for individuals in recovery – particularly during the hours, days, and weeks that stressors and risks are most likely to surface – and when individuals are not in front of their healthcare treatment provider. The CHESS Connections app, which supports individuals in building healthy habits, reducing isolation, and celebrating achievements, is the foundation of a robust virtual community. CHESS Health’s certified peer recovery specialists, who have lived experience in SUD, moderate lively discussion groups and host video support meetings, creating meaningful engagement and dialogue around the issues that matter most – and support individuals 24/7. The platform even includes digital behavior change programs, allowing individuals to access bite-sized training on an as-needed basis.
About CHESS Health:
CHESS Health creates innovative solutions designed at the intersection of science, technology, and recovery. Founded in 2014 by nationally recognized substance abuse researcher Dr. Dave Gustafson, CHESS developed A-CHESS- the leading evidence-based relapse prevention technology. By integrating A-CHESS into treatment plans, clinicians, case managers and coaches can best support those in recovery with access to predictive relapse analytics, condition-specific content and access to live support, reducing relapse by 50 percent while decreasing costs and saving lives. A leader in the mHealth space, the A-CHESS platform received recognition from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Registry of Evidence-based Programs and Practices (NREPP), the Journal of Substance Abuse and the Surgeon General.

Product Capabilities

Clinicians meet with patients via video calls, with regular follow-up appointments. Patients are able to contact their care team via in-app chat messaging when questions arise between appointments. Medications are prescribed only as clinically appropriate, and are e-prescribed to the patient's local pharmacy. All Workit Health clinicians are able to prescribe controlled substances and commonly prescribe buprenorphine/naloxone or naltrexone for opioid use disorder, as well as naloxone for overdose prevention. Medications commonly prescribed for alcohol use disorder include naltrexone, acamprosate, or disulfiram. Other medications may also be prescribed, as indicated. Workit Health's programs for substance use disorder are supported by recovery groups and a curriculum of skills-based therapeutic courses. Urine drug screens are required at regular intervals for those being treated for opioid use disorder, and as needed for members being treated for other conditions.

Workit Health programs for substance use disorders include recovery groups that are either therapist-moderated or support groups. Therapist-moderated groups are hosted by licensed counselors who utilize evidence-based strategies drawn from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. Support groups are hosted by coaches and staff, many of whom are in recovery or impacted by substance use disorder. These groups give members an opportunity to build relationships with other people who are on similar recovery paths and to develop a sense of community.

Description:

With eIntervention, SUD providers get a web-based platform for establishing digital, closed-loop referral connections with community referral sources, such as EDs, clinics, community organizations, correctional facilities, and others, and to coordinate services with other providers and agencies in the community. Not only are referrals automated and tracked, but the integrated patient engagement functionality within eIntervention also supports and motivates the individual to follow through on the referral. CHESS customers report more referrals and fewer no-shows following the use of eIntervention.

Differentiators

Differentiators vs Competitors:
  • Workit Health's harm-reduction focus, human-centered design, and clinical rigor elevate us above our competitors. We offer more comprehensive treatment options than other companies in our space, treating opioid, alcohol, and stimulant use disorders, and offering therapeutic support for other process and behavioral addictions.
  • Over six years ago, Workit Health pioneered virtual drug screens for our members. We began with a system of video connection, allowing a staff member to verify a drug test via telemedicine, and in 2022 we launched the Automated Drug Testing system. It is the first of its kind in digital health, and a patent is pending. Automated Drug Testing empowers Workit members to take control of their own recovery, while also allowing members the flexibility to complete urine drug screens at any time of day or night, anywhere they have privacy and wifi.
  • In 2022, we expanded our services to cover conditions that are commonly comorbid with substance use disorder, including hepatitis C, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and PrEP for HIV. We also began offering the first telehealth treatment program for stimulant use disorder, incorporating clinical care and contingency management along with behavioral health support.

Differentiators vs Competitors:

Our eRecovery solution, encompassing our evidence-based Connections App, provides individuals with 24/7 support to sustain and strengthen their recovery between outpatient visits. Clinical trials and customer implementations have found that individuals with the app were more likely to make their next appointment and stay in treatment. Their long-term outcomes are better too; health plans and others have measured lower rates of return to a higher level of care (detox, residential, inpatient) among those with the support of the app.
