Artisight Platform

We implemented the virtual nursing platform within a portion of our facility to pilot the solution. The implementation went smooth and the clinical feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive for the support it provided to clinical staff and patients. The platform was very intuitive and easy to use with positive feedback reagarding the web-based UI, camera controls and quality of devices. The AI for Fall Risk was a feature that allowed for advanced patient monitoring to better prevent patient falls and adverse events. The solution was well received by staff and patients.

Seamlessly standardized our Virtual Sitter program and expanded into Virtual Nursing to best support our patients and bedside caregivers. Very exciting possibiltiies as we expand Artisight into a Smart Hospital concept and deploy to all beds and ORs.    

Using Artisight’s platform to monitor for adverse events is leading to better patient outcomes, as nurses can intervene before the situation escalates. This technology is also decreasing the number of unnecessary interventions for nurses. Take a nursing task like turning a patient over to prevent bed sores. Sometimes this occurs organically — a patient might turn over three times during their sleep. Artisight’s platform uses computer vision to detect movements like this and then documents it — which means that the nurse doesn’t have to wake up their patient or perform a task that’s already been fulfilled. 

We have been able to implement quickly and be agile in development with Artisight to meet our unique needs. For example, our rehab patients do not wear gowns, and the algorithm was built off seeing gowns to identify the patient so we were able to collaborate with Artisight and to re-learn the algorithm to also include t-shirts. 

When nurses were hesitant about the adoption of Artisight for virtual nursing, [our] health system created an innovation space where they could test the solution for themselves. Give your nurses a voice and give them an opportunity to speak up.

We started predominantly in virtual nursing and trying to utilize our nursing workforce more across the system. We might have a hospital 50 miles away, and we have nurses there providing care to our city hospital. Nurses could discharge patients at other hospitals remotely.

While many AI solutions solve a single problem well, we are discovering that the Artisight platform may be able to solve many problems for us

We are using this computer vision tool to look at surgeries as they are occurring with an AI capability that helps train physicians in new procedures. Artisight can evaluate the surgery and provide documentation on open and close time. It helps our physicians who are training residents to learn new procedures and to have feedback to help them achieve the best practice.

Imagine we have this technology in every patient room in every hospital across Avera. Think about the doors it opens; it’s not just a virtual nurse who can help a patient. It could be a therapist or a pharmacist who needs to connect, or even an out-of-town family member.
