DESCRIPTION
ivWatch is a proven technology with 40+ clinical bodies of evidence, 69 global patents, over 10 million patient monitoring hours, and 300k patients monitored. The technology uses a predictive algorithm and visible and near-infrared light to detect changes in the optical properties of the tissue around an IV site and notifies clinicians in real time to check the IV site if changes are detected. The product checks the IV sit 5x per second and can detect fluid in as little as 0.2mLs of fluid, on average 2.02mLs and is 99% sensitive for 10mLs or less. With the use of early infiltration detection technology may: • Improve patient safety and outcomes • A strong return on investment and cost savings • Reduces hospital and clinician liability • Improves patient satisfaction ratings • Advances clinical competency IV extravasation injuries are avoidable with technology.

Use cases and differentiators

ivWatch is cleared for use on any body mass, skin tone, age group and any PIV site.

Although infiltration rates vary across studies, published evidence suggests that peripheral IV failure rates—including infiltration—can exceed 50%, with some studies reporting rates up to 80% in high-risk neonatal populations. This makes early detection and prevention a critical aspect of neonatal care.

The system scans the site five times per second, resulting in about 18,000 assessments per hour. In contrast, manual inspection of IV sites is typically conducted once per hour or even less frequently, depending on staffing and protocols. While the Infusion Nurses Society (INS) recommends routine and frequent assessments, these are still bound by human limitations and are objective. The system continuously monitors the IV insertion site and identifies subtle changes in tissue characteristics—such as fluid accumulation—by analyzing shifts in light absorption and reflection. These changes often occur before any visible or palpable signs appear.

The system provides a real-time, objective alert when tissue changes suggest infiltration or extravasation, prompting timely and focused clinician evaluation.

ivWatch is cleared for use on any body mass, skin tone, age group, and any PIV site.
