The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Center for Telehealth team partnered with Stel Life, Inc. to present the results of their innovative “Not Home Alone: A COVID-19 Post-Discharge Remote Patient Monitoring Pilot” program at the October 2022 American Academy of Nursing Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. Stel’s patented “Passive and Secure Heath Device Connectivity” allows patients to connect with their care team without requiring wifi, smartphones, or tech-literacy. Patients simply take their vitals within 100-ft of any smart IoT Hub (Stel, Amazon Echos, Routers), and Stel will securely transmit the measurement to the patient’s EHR and/or care team’s preferred digital health platform. Stel is a push only system and takes no-PHI or customer data in this process. Throughout the pandemic, Stel’s Cellular and Bluetooth Hub base model supported vulnerable patients experiencing the digital divide or challenging social determinants of health. This base Vitals Hub has no buttons, switches, or extra pairing steps. The Vitals Hub has a growing device ecosystem and can connect with hundreds of specialty and general devices for remote care. Stel is working to expand their Operating System to support Internet Modems, Routers, Smart HomeSpeakers, and other internet gateways to enable safe and accessible connectivity needed for all patients to connect with their care-teams. Stel’s patents include: US Pat. 11,165,866 + Pat. 11,246,026
As we move forward, who do we risk leaving behind? The pandemic has exposed the current reality of the digital divide. 43% of lower income americans lack broadband + 60% of medical facilities (outside of metropolitan areas lack broadband) 41% of Medicare beneficiaries lack smartphones Even if they do have access, there’s a question about passwords and security - last year, Knightscope revealed 100% of top 30 Health Apps were hacked. As Health System and Care team are being pushed to formalize equitable digital health strategies, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing headlines stating: “75% of Health System Leaders aren’t happy with their digital health strategy” As Patients and Care Teams evolve the standard of care to the home, common barriers that emerge are: 1) Complexity for Patients (especially those that lack wifi, smartphones, and/or comfort with tech), 2) Care Team burnt out, especially with new systems and non-standardized processes outside the EHR, 3) Varying and non-standard Privacy and Security practices by Device Manufacturers. Motivated by sensor experts being forced to master separate PHI, App Development, and EHR flows in order to commercialize their products. Stel’s proprietary technology is designed to simplify these complexities in a safe and secure way, so Patients and Care Teams have confidence to adopt the new normal of care. Health Systems can use multiple companies as patients navigate Hospital at Home, Transition of Care, Chronic Condition Management, and Wellness - that patient will only need 1 Stel Hub to interact with those various programs.
Rapid Device Integrations: Requested device integrations are completed in record time. Throughout the supply chain hassles, Clinicians were able to switch and offer alternative devices sourced from their local pharmacies. All worked with Stel without any issues. Stel's record was 4 devices integrated over night (before the start of the next work day). Specialty Device Integrations: Stel's supported devices include lab quality home-blood tests to implantable devices. EHR and Digital Health Integrations: Because of Stel's No-PHI flows, Health Systems were able to streamline IT and legal review to complete EHR integration within days (with limited resources).
Check out our customer reviews. We strongly believe in supporting and eliminating burden, hassle, and extra time for care teams boldly evolving care to the home.

The Stel Vitals Hub seamlessly and securely connects bluetooth vitals devices to health records without complex setup, WiFi, or mobile applications.
Healthcare leaders are struggling with the reality of the digital divide and integrating hundreds of point solutions across the care continuum.
Patients simply plug in the Hub and use their vitals device.
Care teams can better monitor patient trends and alerts within their preferred workflow.
With Stel, patients don’t require Wi-Fi, smartphones, or tech-literacy to connect with their care teams.
Stel passively and securely connects the device data to their care team’s Electronic Health Records (EHR) or preferred platform without risking Protected Health Information (PHI) or complicated workflows.

Patients and their care teams
Currently, EHR do not routinely provide RPM Workflows. Many clinicians support RPM with external applications and platforms that create duplicative work and increase the likelihood of transcription errors. The Stel solution provides data directly into the EHR where clinicians are working and allows for seamless access to patient generated health data flowsheets.
Stel Vitals Hub has a zero-trust architecture that does not ingest any PHI. Stel does not require the patient to have a smartphone, WiFi, or app-literacy. Ideal for patients struggling from the digital divide.

This is pretty simple. We couldn't find a product that solved our major problems:
1. Affordable - Less $$$ than all others we evaluated.
2. EMR integrtion - IoMT Data back into the ACTUAL flowchart structured fields (not like other companies who say they "integrate" with EMRs and just drop a random .pdf)
These pdfs are just labeled 2389r2983420948.pdf and no one cares to look at them. This "integratino" just angers RNs and MDs. Stel solved that.
3. Connectivity - they can get patients connected in the Mojave Desert...seriously.
4. Easy to use - zero configuration for patients. Patients open it up, plug it in and then there's auto, passive, continuous data capture. This also happens to be patented so we couldn't find anyone who solves that problem.
5. Customer service - Riduculously committed to customers
6. Executive Vision - Their CEO and advisory board are 5 steps ahead of the game.

Our hospital has been working with Stel to launch several RPM programs. We have focused on disease process (hypertension), monitoring patient vitals in order to keep them out of the hospital, as well as decreasing length of stay. The product is easy to setup-no WiFi needed and we have received positive patient feedback on its ease of use. We look forward to growing our program and continuing our relationship with Stel.

The Stel Hub has been a game changer for patients enrolled in the HTN RPM program at our community health center. It's a very easy product to explain to patients, and use. And our providers have been able to make BP medication changes quicker, and follow readings in real time.
Plus the Hubs come with a remarkable customer support team!

We have been partnered with Stel for several years now. Our health system clients use their connected health RPM platform & cellular data hub to easily scale RPM to their patients. The Stel platform is simple. It requires no app, no smartphone and no bluetooth setup or pairing from the patients. Devices automatically connect, then securely & reliably send data back to us so that we can monitor & trend patient vitals, provide appropriate nursing interventions, involve providers as needed, etc. In order to implement and scale RPM successfully, it needs to be simple for providers & patients to adopt, it needs to stay within provider's existing EMR workflows and it needs to work. In short, you need Stel!

The use of the Stel hub has made our remote patient monioring very seamless and easy to use for both patients and clinicians. Hubs can be linked to the patient's EHR through a unique identifier for the hub. At home, the hub is simply plugged into a power source. From there, everytime a bluetooth device, like a pulse ox, is used by the patient, it sends the reading to the hub, which automatically reads the identifier and uploads the patient generated health data directly into their record. Remotely, our nurses and providers can see the information and respond. EHR integration was quick, and readings flow directly into the discrete field where they belong--enhancing both quality reporting and billing efficiencies. The team, the tools, and the guidance have all been exceptional and supportive. We've found this method to be much easier and intuitive than sending cellular-enabled tablets to patients where they can be complicated to troubleshoot, misplaced, or damaged.
