Product Capabilities

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Center for Telehealth team partnered with Stel Life, Inc. to present the results of their innovative “Not Home Alone: A COVID-19 Post-Discharge Remote Patient Monitoring Pilot” program at the October 2022 American Academy of Nursing Health Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. Stel’s patented “Passive and Secure Heath Device Connectivity” allows patients to connect with their care team without requiring wifi, smartphones, or tech-literacy. Patients simply take their vitals within 100-ft of any smart IoT Hub (Stel, Amazon Echos, Routers), and Stel will securely transmit the measurement to the patient’s EHR and/or care team’s preferred digital health platform. Stel is a push only system and takes no-PHI or customer data in this process. Throughout the pandemic, Stel’s Cellular and Bluetooth Hub base model supported vulnerable patients experiencing the digital divide or challenging social determinants of health. This base Vitals Hub has no buttons, switches, or extra pairing steps. The Vitals Hub has a growing device ecosystem and can connect with hundreds of specialty and general devices for remote care. Stel is working to expand their Operating System to support Internet Modems, Routers, Smart HomeSpeakers, and other internet gateways to enable safe and accessible connectivity needed for all patients to connect with their care-teams. Stel’s patents include: US Pat. 11,165,866 + Pat. 11,246,026

As we move forward, who do we risk leaving behind? The pandemic has exposed the current reality of the digital divide. 43% of lower income americans lack broadband + 60% of medical facilities (outside of metropolitan areas lack broadband) 41% of Medicare beneficiaries lack smartphones Even if they do have access, there’s a question about passwords and security - last year, Knightscope revealed 100% of top 30 Health Apps were hacked. As Health System and Care team are being pushed to formalize equitable digital health strategies, it’s no wonder that we’re seeing headlines stating: “75% of Health System Leaders aren’t happy with their digital health strategy” As Patients and Care Teams evolve the standard of care to the home, common barriers that emerge are: 1) Complexity for Patients (especially those that lack wifi, smartphones, and/or comfort with tech), 2) Care Team burnt out, especially with new systems and non-standardized processes outside the EHR, 3) Varying and non-standard Privacy and Security practices by Device Manufacturers. Motivated by sensor experts being forced to master separate PHI, App Development, and EHR flows in order to commercialize their products. Stel’s proprietary technology is designed to simplify these complexities in a safe and secure way, so Patients and Care Teams have confidence to adopt the new normal of care. Health Systems can use multiple companies as patients navigate Hospital at Home, Transition of Care, Chronic Condition Management, and Wellness - that patient will only need 1 Stel Hub to interact with those various programs.

Rapid Device Integrations: Requested device integrations are completed in record time. Throughout the supply chain hassles, Clinicians were able to switch and offer alternative devices sourced from their local pharmacies. All worked with Stel without any issues. Stel's record was 4 devices integrated over night (before the start of the next work day). Specialty Device Integrations: Stel's supported devices include lab quality home-blood tests to implantable devices. EHR and Digital Health Integrations: Because of Stel's No-PHI flows, Health Systems were able to streamline IT and legal review to complete EHR integration within days (with limited resources).

Check out our customer reviews. We strongly believe in supporting and eliminating burden, hassle, and extra time for care teams boldly evolving care to the home.

Differentiators

Differentiators vs EHR Functionality:

Currently, EHR do not routinely provide RPM Workflows. Many clinicians support RPM with external applications and platforms that create duplicative work and increase the likelihood of transcription errors. The Stel solution provides data directly into the EHR where clinicians are working and allows for seamless access to patient generated health data flowsheets.

Differentiators vs Competitors:

Stel Vitals Hub has a zero-trust architecture that does not ingest any PHI. Stel does not require the patient to have a smartphone, WiFi, or app-literacy. Ideal for patients struggling from the digital divide.

Differentiators vs EHR Functionality:

Nesa is not an EHR replacement but the virtual care operating system that disappears inside Epic workflow. As the only inpatient virtual care platform listed in Epic Toolbox, Nesa meets Epic's recommended integration practices with native ECAL/CAL integration, direct flowsheet write-back, and ADT feeds—eliminating middleware and enabling clinicians to deliver virtual care without ever leaving Epic.

Differentiators vs Competitors:
  • Epic-Native Architecture
  • Only virtual care platform in Epic Toolbox with recommended integration standards
  • Direct Epic integration—no middleware, no separate logins, no PHI transmission outside Epic
